Simon & Garfunkel (사이먼 앤 가펑클) - The Sound Of Silence (더 사운드 오브 사일런스)
'The Sound Of Silence'는 1964년 10월 19일에 발매된 미국의 포크 듀오 '사이먼 앤 가펑클 (Simon & Garfunkel)'의 1집 데뷔 앨범 [Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.]에 수록이 되었고, 1966년 1월 17일에 발매된 2집 앨범 [Sound of Silence] 타이틀 곡으로 수록이 되었다.
1집 앨범 [Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.]은 상업적을 실패를 하였고 사이먼과 가펑클은 해체를 하였다, 1965년 앨범 수록곡인 'The Sound Of Silence'가 라디오에서 인기를 얻고 1집 앨범 프로듀서였던 '톰 윌슨 (Tom Wilson)'이 사이먼과 가펑클의 동의를 얻지 않고 오버 더빙을 하여 다시 녹음한 리믹스 싱글 버전이 급기야 빌보드 싱글 차트 1위를 하자 사이먼과 가펑클은 다시 재결성을 하고 2집 앨범을 녹음하였고 앨범 제목도 [Sound of Silence]로 하여 발매하였다.
'The Sound Of Silence'는 폴 사이먼이 작사, 작곡을 한 곡으로 노래는 처음에는 빛을 보지 못했지만 뒤늦게 히트를 하며 상업적으로 크게 성공을 하면서 사이먼과 가펑클이 재결합을 하게 된 계기를 만든 노래이다.
'The Sound Of Silence'는 빌보드 싱글 차트 1위를 차지하였고, 호주, 캐나다, 오스트리아, 독일, 뉴질랜드 등에서 싱글 차트 탑 10안에 들었다.
'Mrs. Robinson', 'Bridge over Troubled Water', 'Homeward Bound', 'I am a Rock' 'The Boxer' 등과 함께 사이먼 앤 가펑클의 대표곡 중 하나이다.
